TRAVELLER’S CUP, BLACKHEATH JUNE 5TH 2011

Following on from last year, Blackheath again turned on some fantastic weather for us, clear skies and a braising 3 degrees C to start the day. Snow is forecast for the 8th June so our timing was good!

A great roll up on Saturday, 13 members electing to stay overnight and enjoy the varied night life that Blackheath offers. The food at the Piedmont Inn was very good and the service first class. Thanks to Rob Langer for providing some red wine and to the club for throwing in some beers and white wine.

We were a little disappointed when we returned to the pub to find that the DJ had blow up his speakers! We had been promised some Rolling Stones earlier in the evening and Wayne Starling & I were keen to strut our stuff! Jason was very pleased we didn’t! We were not long however without entertainment as Rob Wilkes suddenly broke into song and delivered a great rendition of “Bad, bad Leroy Brown”, sensational stuff! It was at this stage that a local legend called Woody upped the anti and rapped his way through some great numbers, who needs a DJ! Rob countered with a great “Wild West Show” but I did like Woody’s “The Gambler”.

Breakfast at The Wattle Café was excellent, again great food and great service…..and now to the golf.

This is the 2nd year of the Traveller’s Cup and defending champion Adam Preston was in the club house early with a solid 39 points. Yours truly came in a little later with 40 points, feeling confident, but knowing that David Ineson was still out on the course. David came in with a very fine 41 points to win the day and get his name on the Trophy, congratulations David. It was good to have Graeme Johnson with us who scored 36 points, and special mention goes to Gary Bender, back from injury with a very respectable 35 points.

Nearest the pin on the 2nd went to David Ineson, on the 7th to Jason and on the 17th to me (I like that hole)!

Thanks to everyone for turning up and making this another very successful weekend.
