A bunch of optimistic golfers turned out at Bayview on Sunday for the 2 ball multiplier event. Weather forecasts had warned of storms but the blue sky above us told an entirely different story, so we headed out on the course with smiles on our faces despite the cold, and waited the winter sun to warm us.

The course was a little soft underfoot but the greens were surprisingly quick and made life a little tricky for even the surest of putters.

Life was good as we journeyed our way at a decent lick from hole to hole, with some giving the scoreboard a decent nudge, while others might have been better off with a cloth than a pencil to mark their scorecard, for the frequent appearance of 'wipes.'

And then the rain came.

Bucket upon bucket of proper rain turned the course into a lake, and whilst some braved it out, others saw fit to give it up, as putting on greens became impossible. It was simply a matter of where you were when the heaviest falls came, and also perhaps how well your round was going!

But we all repaired to the clubhouse, warmed by the heat of the barbecue, some good honest food inside us, and pretty soon, we were all back in comp mode, ready to work out how this finished/unfinished round was to be recorded.

Steve Joyce decided that this would be an open forum, to agree a) the points score for the club championship, and b) the actual event of the day.

After some open debate, it was carried without objection to award 8 points to each player who played on the day. This was derived from the usual 5 points for playing plus 3 points representing an equal share of the bonus points on offer.

This ensured that those playing still had access to the full points allocation on the day, and that those who didn't play incurred the same lack of access to points that all non-playing members incur on any other given day.

As far as the day's comp was concerned, the day's winners were Jason Pugh and Gary Bender, who notched up 51 points, despite Jason's valiant attempts to derail their progress on the back 9! Second place went to David Ineson and Prohmie, with Jason linking up as a swinger with Phillip Ming-Lai for third spot.

The only NTP to be awarded went to Richard Evans on the 8th.

Now, with tumble dryers spinning we'll all be back on course, ready to take on The Springs.
